Art Beat Review

Art Beat – South Bend
I am working on recovering from Art Beat!
 Whew, what a show!

Thousands of people flocked down Michigan Street and I couldn’t get over the constant steady stream of shoppers, it was overwhelming!

It was great to see so many of my friends and family at the show.  They not only came to see my new jewelry designs but for some of them it was their first time to experience what it is that I really do for a living these days!!!!

Oodles of families came with their children to enjoy a great day of art and special activities planned just for children.  I couldn’t help but take pictures of these adorable children that came by during the day.  This little boy’s name was Ethan and the two of us struck up a great conversation.  He’d just had his face painted and he was ready to soar in his bat boy cape.

Then the magic began as we watched this family who stopped to listen to the violin performers across from our booth.
This tiny little girl was drawn to the lilting sound of the violin.  We witnessed something that is seldom seen these days as the young violinist got down on her knees right there in the street and played for this tiny little one, neither of them speaking yet communicating on a different level.  It was amazing to watch her expressions as the violin took her to a place that only she understood.  As another vendor said, “she totally gets it”!  It sure tugged at the heart strings of those of us who were privy to witness this moment.

Her older brother Theodore got in on the magic too as he rubber her head as if to say he too understood.

Yup, there was magic and nostalgia abound that day!
My booth was located right in front of the old State Theater!
My gosh, I  never ever noticed these incredible faces and carvings on the building when I was a kid going to the movies.  Guess I was just too excited about the show or too young to appreciate them back then!

As I was standing there in the middle of Michigan Street putting up the booth with Ken that morning where I'd spent many a Saturday with my Mom shopping, the memories started to creep back one by one.  My heart was full as I remembered all of the wonderful times we'd spent there together.  Going to the Tea Room for lunch at Robertson’s where you could get a toy out of the “treasure chest”!  Or the Peanut Shop where we’d go and the smell of fresh roasting peanuts on a cold winter’s day warmed you to your toes.  Then there were times spent shopping at Kresge’s for trinkets or whatever you needed and the hope of getting a strawberry sundae at the soda counter.  Every now and then they would have helium balloons lined up down the counter where you could choose a balloon and the waitress would pop it for you and out would float a piece of paper with “your” special discount price, usually a penny!  It was the highlight of the shopping day. Oh, what an era gone by!
Art Beat volunteers couldn’t of been nicer or more helpful and the task of laying out so many vendor booths was well done!

Thank you Art Beat and South Bend for a wonderful day and the memories too!

Location: Downtown South Bend, IN
Time: ‎11:00 AM - 6:00 PM Saturday, August 27th
This coming Saturday is the annual event of the year in downtown South Bend.
Food, Music and ART.  Over 230 vendors, what more can you want besides great weather!
Oh, and did I mention it's Free!

Magdalena Moon Designs will be located on Michigan Street between Jefferson and Wayne Streets in Scene 5, our booth number is 5.19!

They have a huge line up of events and the artists are all from the Michiana Area.  So do come out and enjoy the day if you can and see some of the new jewelry designs that I've been working on over the last few weeks.

This is my first year attending Art Beat and I really am looking forward to doing a show where I grew up and walked the streets as a child.  The Peanut Shop and Kresge's may no longer be there but the memories remain of Saturdays spent shopping with my Mom.

I'm looking forward to this show since it is so close to home.  This will be my first time attending the show and I'm excited that the arts are building in this small community of ours.
Now if the weather continues to be as nice as it's been all week this should be a great show to attend.

Our Last Two Art Shows

Chesterton Art in the Park - August 6 & 7
Fern Lady Necklace - Bronze
The show last weekend at Hawthorne Park in Chesterton, IN was the hottest show we’ve done in five years!   Between the 97% humidity and 90+ degree temperatures I’m not sure what was worse.  Oh, yes, that would be the rain that blew in unexpectedly on Sunday morning but left just as quick leaving everyone including us drenched and feeling like we were in a sauna.  However, that didn't stop the shoppers who still came out after it was all over and enjoyed seeing the great line up of artists at this show.

This little critter on the right came to visit on Sunday and hung around for hours trying to figure out how he could get inside of my silver heart necklace that has a keyhole in the front.  His wings were like black lace and I just didn't have the "heart" to shew him away.  I must say he had good taste.

Many of my new designs flew off the shelf and now have new homes. I just want to say thank you to all of our old and new customers who came out despite the weather! We had a great time overall and meet some really nice people.  Thanks also to the great committee who watched over us, brought us bottled water and kept and eye on the storm so we stayed safe on Sunday.  See you next year!!!!

Domaine Berrien Cellars
Art & Wine Music Festival
July 30
We had so much fun at this show!  My hats off to the frogs who serenaded us and kept the children (me included) occupied.
The sweltering sun didn't bother us much as we scored big time with a booth space nestled under a huge tree  right by the pond full of huge frogs!!!!

While his mother was shopping at my booth  this little boy was in heaven catching frogs from the pond and I couldn't help but take his picture; this little frog still had it's tail!  His sister got in the act also and caught a whopper.

This art festival was a family event and the people truly enjoyed their day full of music, wine and the arts.  The show was one class act and I do hope we will be juried back in again next year!!!

Seems the critters took center stage at the last two shows!  But don't be dismayed here are some of the new designs that we had during the show.  You notice I said "had"!
