What I learned today!

Today I learned not to take life for granted and to live in the moment!

Like a fragile woven web, life needs to be savored and appreciated every once in a while.

Today, I gave myself permission to take the day off and enjoy the warm sun streaming from above.   It was a day of discovery with a lot of aha moments.

How often do we go through the day and not fully appreciate what is around us?  So busy with a list of things to do each day (and boy was mine a long one) we fail to give ourselves permission to just be, to take in the wonder of the day God has given to us.

I struggled with the voices within knowing that I’d planned to clean a much neglected house, yet the warmth and beauty of the day called me out to play. After all winter is right around the corner and how many more 80 degree days would come my way?  Besides, I haven’t been on a vacation in ages and all the signs were visible that this would be a great stay-cation day if I only choose to let it happen.

So, I sat and soaked up the warm Indian summer sun. I caught up on magazines that have gathered over the summer as I listened to the incredible sounds coming from the winter swans that arrived last week.  I had never heard them talk or make as many sounds as they did today.  Maybe they performed just for me while they lazily swam back and forth past the house.  I couldn't help but feel their power and see how regal and majestic these creatures really are.

The quiet still water of the lake beckoned me to pull my kayak off the rack late in the day and go for a long ride.  Oh, the smells of fall that filled the air.  The tamaracks in the cove reminded me of luxurious spices from some far away coast, rich warm and earthy.  I don't think I have ever noticed that before.

A huge Birch tree called me to capture its beauty and bright yellow glowing leaves.

Time rolled by slowly today as I savored each and every moment, smell and surprise.  As the sun dropped behind the trees I could feel the cool air roll over the water and I knew it was time to head back home.
Today I learned that you can’t wait for tomorrow!   For it may not come!

Today I learned each moment is a gift!

Today I learned the choices I make have a ripple effect like a pebble hitting the water!

Today I learned my life is like a road map, each road leads to a new journey!

Today I learned that if I take a few moments to slow down and be still as the world goes by,
that there is beauty and peace to be found!
